We are excited to share this fun disguise a turkey project idea as it takes this activity to a whole new level. Have your students make a turkey agamograph craft, one image with a regular-looking turkey and one image with a turkey in disguise.
Just imagine how cool your Thanksgiving bulletin board will look with these creations displayed on it. As people move past it, the turkeys will quickly put on a disguise, depending on the viewing angle. Now, if this isn’t one of the coolest turkey in disguise printables, we don’t know what is.

Are you not familiar with the disguise turkey activities? The Turkey in Disguise project is a creative and educational assignment often given to students in elementary schools around Thanksgiving time, it is inspired by a popular book Turkey Trouble, which is a great book to read along with this project.
Based on the idea that turkeys may want to avoid being served as the main course during Thanksgiving dinner, the project encourages students to create disguises for their turkeys. More often than not, the project also comes with a writing assignment where kids are asked to describe their disguise designs as well as to explain why the costume works.
So how does ours work? Once assembled, when looking from the left side, you will see a regular-looking turkey.
But when you look at this craft from the right side, a turkey in disguise, whichever your kids have designed, will appear.
Pretty neat right?
How ti Make This Disguise a Turkey Project (Agamograph Craft)
What you need:
- our printable template
- heavier print paper / construction paper is best
- coloring supplies
- glue
- scissors
Step by Step Tutorial
Print out the templates. We do recommend you print at least the background grid on cardstock / heavier print paper but this template works really well on regular print paper.
There is a blank turkey outline on the right, this is where your students will design their disguise. The light outline serves as a guide to where to draw the disguise. A combination of black marker and crayons works really great.
Also have the kids color the regular turkey, with regular turkey colors.
Once colored in, cut along the lines. You can have the kids leave the numbers to make the assembly easier.
Take the numbered grid, and start gluing the strips on their designated spaces.
The regular-looking turkey goes on spaces marked with the numbers 1, 3, 4, and 7.
And the disguised one goes on spaces marked with the numbers 2, 4, 6, and 8.
Once all parts are glued in, wait just a little for the glue to set.
Cut around the outer edge.
Start folding. Make an accordion fold along each of the paper strips.
It should be folding without any issues, however you can also have kids help themselves with a ruler if they are struggling.
Fold all the way to the and. Press down and run your hand across to make the folds even neater.
And you are done!
