This is a great project to make either at home or in the classroom, as it’s a low-prep one that you can set up within minutes. We already shared a few turkey in disguise templates a while ago and we are really excited to add the mermaid one to the rooster.

Easy Disguise a Turkey Mermaid Craft Template
Who doesn’t love a mermaid? These magical creatures are one of kids’ all-time favorites, so disguising a turkey as one is a no-brainer.
What makes our craft really stand out is that you can make the turkey put its disguise on and off! How exciting and perfect for the Thanksgiving bulletin board display!
How to Make the Disguise a Turkey as a Mermaid Craft
Supplies you will need:
- our printable template (you can grab it at the end of this tutorial)
- coloring supplies
- glue
- scissors
We recommend using cardstock for this craft, however, you can use regular print paper as well. If your kids will be using regular print paper, crayons, and coloring pencils are great for creating this craft, markers might wrinkle the paper though.
Step by Step Tutorial
Have your kids color in the template parts. If you want them to make a “disguise on, disguise off” turkey, they will need to color two turkeys.
The template with I am not a turkey, I am written on it should be colored in to look like a regular turkey.
Next, color the second turkey. Have the kids think about how the turkey in disguise will look once he or she dons the mermaid disguise. For example, the tail of the turkey can be colored as a large seashell or with blue color to look like the ocean.
The body od the turkey can be any color your kids want – they can go with turkey looking colors, skin colors or even colors like green. Mermaids are after all fairy tale creatures so there are no set rules on how they should look.

Cut out all the pieces; the disguise and the turkey outline that was colored in “ready to be a mermaid” colors.
Start making the mermaid disguise. Glue the tail on the turkey, cleverly covering the legs.
Also add a pair of seashe
A wig makes all the difference for this disguise.
And a seashell to complete the look.
If you are just making a turkey disguised as a mermaid, you can finish things here, however, we think the next few steps make all the difference.
Take the “I am not a turkey, I am..” sheet and fold it along the dashed line.
Apply glue on the folded part, bellow the turkey’s belly.
Glue the turkey disguised as a mermaid on top, neatly aligning the turkeys.
All done! This disguise a turkey as a mermaid craft template allows the turkey to quickly disguise itself when need be. Add the writing papers and make a fun wall display.
