Step by Step Tutorial

If you want to make the puppets sturdier, we recommend printing the template on cardstock. You could also print them on regular paper, cut out the pieces and laminate them for extra durability.

Have kids color the puppets or print the pre-colored templates.

Step 1

We’ll show you how to make a Santa Claus split pin puppet – no worries if your kids want to start with another character – all these puppets are assembled similarly.

Step 10

Cut out the parts.

Step 11

Make holes (marked with black dots) so the puppet will be able to move its parts.

Step 12

Insert the split pins for the hands.

Step 13

Secure the pins at the back.

Step 15

Insert the split pins for the Santa Claus’s legs.

Step 16

Secure the pins at the back.

Step 17

Santa Claus is ready to dance and jingle his bell!

Step 18

Have kids make all eight Christmas friends – a reindeer, two elves, a snowman, a Gingerbread Man, a Nutcracker, and an angel.

We love every one of them!
