Butterfly Silhouette Art Idea

A simple art idea that allows kids to make a colorful creation within minutes. This butterfly silhouette art idea is a perfect project to give your kids a nudge into the wonderful world of art. Stress free and always turns out great.

How to Make the Printable Butterfly Silhouette Art

What you need:

• printable template
• scissors
• crayons, markers, or other coloring supplies
• a blank sheet of paper

Step by Step Tutorial

Print the butterfly template or have the kids make one on their own.

Carefully cut out the butterfly outline.

Lay the butterfly cutout on a blank sheet of paper and have kids hold the butterfly in place. You can also use washi tape or similar to keep it in place.

Using crayons or other coloring mediums, have them draw lines starting from the edges of the butterfly and extending outward onto the background paper.

Continue making lines around.

Have them continue until the paper beneath is almost filled with color.

Then add a darker hue. We used a dark blue crayon.

The background is coming together beautifully!

Have kids choose a darker color (we used purple) and go around the butterfly once more to make the silhouette stand out even more.

Almost there!

Remove the butterfly template to reveal the beautiful butterfly silhouette left behind.
