Hi all! It is summer already, and in the part of the Earth where we live, summer means glowing fireflies everywhere around for a couple of months.
That’s awesome.
We really love fireflies, and we thought about sharing the magic with you and making a firefly project today – a small firefly glowing in the dark starry sky.
It is a super simple project to do, but it brings us so much warmth and calmness every time we land our eyes on it.
So guys, if you decided to join us crafting today, grab your tools, and let’s go!
How to Make a Paper Firefly Craft
What you need:
- black cardstock
- dark green color paper
- light green color paper or any color you like (for the glowing part of the firefly)
- scissors
- glue
- compass
- googly eyes
- pencil
- silver marker
- white tempera or white acrylic
- paintbrush or a toothbrush
- a piece of self-adhesive foam tape
- little water (a cap)
Step by Step Tutorial
The Base
Take the compass and draw a circle on the black cardstock. Our circle has a 5,5 cm diameter.
Then cut the circle out.
Mix some white paint with water, apply the paint on the brush and sprinkle some stars over the black circle.
It is easier to do this with a toothbrush, but a small paintbrush will do too.
Put the circle aside and let the paint dry.
The Grass
Take the dark green color paper and place it over one part of the circle as shown in the picture.
Trace a part of the circle with a pencil on the dark green color paper.
The semi-circle line should fit perfectly.
Now cut out that shape.
Take your scissors and cut some grass. Start from the line by going downwards as the arrow shows you.
Make sure to stop before you reach the end of the paper, so you do not cut through it.
Repeat this process with black cardstock too.
Apply some glue on the edges of the green color paper and glue it on the black circle.
Apply some glue on the edges of the black cardstock and glue it on the green grass.
The Firefly
Draw a firefly on the black cardstock.
Cut the firefly out.
Outline it with the silver marker…
…and decorate its wings with a pencil.
Attach the googly eyes on the firefly’s head.
On the light green color paper, draw an oval shape
… and cut it out.
Apply some glue on the oval shape and attach it to the bottom part of the firefly.
Glue the foam tape piece on the backside of the firefly.
Then glue the firefly in the center of the black starry circle.
That is all for today, guys!
Let us know what glowing color you chose for your firefly!
Enjoy making your new firefly craft!
Bye, bye!
