How to Make the Dragonfly Tin Foil Transfer Art
What you need:
- white cardstock
- black marker
- washable color markers (pink, yellow, green, blue, orange, or any colors your kids like)
- aluminum (tin) foil
- spray bottle with water
Step by Step Tutorial
Start with a piece of cardstock or art paper.

Draw the dragonfly’s body and head in the center with a black marker – you can follow our how to draw a dragonfly tutorial.

Add eyes to the head.

Draw two wings on each side of the body.

Add details inside each wing.

Add a few extra patterns if you like.

Finish your dragonfly by adding six legs.

Unroll a sheet of aluminum foil and smooth it out until it’s nice and flat, making sure it’s slightly larger than your dragonfly cardstock so there’s plenty of space for the color transfer magic.

Use washable markers to add bright, colorful patches to the foil.

Pink, yellow, green, blue, and orange work beautifully together.

Fill a spray bottle with water.

Lightly mist the foil until it’s damp but not dripping.

Carefully place your dragonfly drawing face down on the wet foil.

Press it firmly with your hands and gently rub to help the colors transfer.

Slowly lift the paper away from the foil to reveal the colorful transfer.

Set your artwork aside to dry.

All done!

This tin foil transfer dragonfly art is a dazzling way to mix drawing and color blending, perfect for a sunny afternoon art session.

It’s a fun project for kids who love trying new art techniques. The surprise reveal never gets old!
