Materials Used

Step by Step Tutorial

The Sky

Start creating the craft by painting a paper plate blue.

Step 1

You may need to add a few coats of paint to make it vivid.

Step 2

Grab the scissors for this next step.

Step 3

The Sun

Cut a hole in the middle of the plate.

Take a needle and start poking tiny holes around the large hole.

Step 4

To start the weaving, make sure there are enough holes.

v

Attach the yellow yarn to the needle.

Step 6

Start the weaving project by going directly across the plate with your weave.

Step 7

Your first step should be a piece of yarn from one end of the plate to the other.

Step 8

You are going to continue to weave the paper plate.

Step 9

Here is a front version of what the sun will look like as you continue to weave.

Step 10

Keep on weaving through all poked holes.

Step 11

Thread yarn through the loops at the backside to secure the sun.

Step 14

Our sun is almost finished.

Step 15

There shouldn’t be any white space showing.

Step 16

Make some more weaves.

Step 17

Secure at the backside again by threading the yarn through a loop.

Step 19

Make a knot.

Step 20

Once you are done weaving the sun, you can cut the excess yarn.

Step 23

The Rays

Next, you are going to make the rays. Take the needle and start poking holes.

Poke sets of holes around the sun.

Step 26

Start the weaving from the backside of the paper plate.

Step 27

Make the first ray by weaving the sun’s yarn towards the second poked hole.

Step 29

We just made the first sun ray.

Step 30

The back should look like in the picture.

Step 31

Go on and finish all the rays.

Step 32

When you finish, you should have rays of sunshine surrounding the sun.

Step 34

Secure the yarn at the back.

Step 38

Make sure you cut the excess yarn off.

Step 39

You can paint white clouds onto the blue plate.

Step 40

As you can see, several clouds make for an elegant sky scene.

Step 41

Add the googly eyes to give the sun some personality.

Step 42

Using a pipe cleaner and pom-poms, you can add a mouth and cheeks to the sun.

Step 45

Your shining sun is ready.
