Have the whole family join together in making a potato stamped reindeer Christmas card this year. This is an easy-to-make festive art activity, and the cards turn out oh-so-cute.
Potato stamping is one of those things that most of us made as kids. It’s an activity loved by generations; and once you try it, you’ll know why. It’s fun, it’s easy, and it’s just creative enough.

How to Make the Potato Stamping Reindeer Christmas Card
What you need:
- scissors
- glue
- potato
- knife
- construction paper (red and two shades of brown)
- paint (brown and black)
- paintbrush
- two googly eyes
Step by Step Tutorial
For the card base, we will be using light brown construction paper.
Have kids fold it in half to create a card.
Prepare a potato, the star of our craft!
Cut the potato in half.
Have kids paint the cut part brown.
They can paint it with a paintbrush (this is a great choice if you are making this at home with one kid, so you don’t waste paint.
Alternativelly, you can pour brown paint into a container dish or a plate and have the kids dip in the potato (this is a great choice if you are crafting with a group of kids or if you are making many cards).
Help your little ones make a print on the front of the card.
Let the paint dry a bit.
In the meantime, have kids cut out thin strips from brown paper and make a pair of antlers.
Glue both to the brown potato print, creating the reindeer’s head.
Attach two googly eyes for that extra dash of cuteness.
Glue on a red circle orellipse for the reindeer’s nose, and let your kids draw the mouth with black paint.
If you want to give your card more dimension, you can have the kids use a large red pom pom for a nose as well.
All done!
