We love making paper plate crafts – paper plates are after all so versatile and a great inexpensive crafting material perfect for larger groups.
How to Make the Paper Plate Whale Craft
What You Need:
- paper plate
- pencil
- scissors
- glue stick
- two googly eyes
- paint (blue, white, and pink)
- paintbrush
- blue colored paper
- black marker
- white chalk marker (or gel marker)
Step by Step Tutorial
You will need one paper plate, but you can make two whales out of it. Draw a S shape across the paper plate “splitting” it in half (in the center).
Cut along that curved line to get two teardrop-ish paper plate shapes. You will need one to make your paper plate whale.
Paint the top part with blue or other whale like color.
Let the paint dry.
You can also paint the bottom part or leave it as it is (as it’s perfect that way). You can add a few white spots on the body of the whale (it will make it look even cooler at the end).
Add one big or two small googly eyes to the whale’s head.
Paint two pink dots under the eyes to make the cheeks (optional but super cute).
Paint or draw the mouth.
Using a black marker draw curved lines on the whale’s belly.
Cut out a tear-like shape from blue paper (or paint the other half of the paper plate and use that if your kids are only making one whale) and glue it onto the whale.
To make the tail fin, cut out a tail shape out of paper.
You can fold the paper in half and cut it that way – this will make both halves of the tail fin the same.
Glue the tail fin onto the whale’s tail.
Take things to the next level by drawing little dots on the whale’s tail as well.
Enjoy watching your little ones create a delightful paper plate whale masterpiece.
Isn’t this a fantastic ocean animal craft perfect for summer projects with kids?
We love how it turned out!
You can even turn them into charming decorations by attaching them to a string and hanging them for all to admire.
