Supplies You Will Need

  • Blue cardstock (for the background)
  • Construction paper (various colors for the wings and body)
  • Googly eyes
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Pencil

How to Make a Paper Dragonfly

1. Prepare the Background

Start with a sheet of blue cardstock. This will be the base for your craft.

Step 1

2. Draw the Wings

Take a rectangular piece of paper (we used pink). Fold it in half. On the folded edge, draw the shape of a dragonfly wing.

Step 2

3. Cut and Glue

Cut along the line you drew and unfold the paper to get a symmetrical set of wings.

Step 3

Apply glue to the center of the wings and press them onto the middle of your blue cardstock.

Step 4

4. Make the Head

Cut a small strip of paper. Roll it into a small cylinder and glue the end to hold the shape.

Step 5

Glue this cylinder at the top of the wings to represent the head.

Step 6

5. Build the Body

Cut several more strips of paper in different colors. Roll each one into a cylinder and glue them in a row underneath the head. These stacked rolls create a 3D effect for the dragonfly’s body.

Roll it into a cylinder, secure it with glue, and attach it to the center of the top of the wings.

Step 7

Using different colored papers, cut, roll, and glue segments side by side to form the dragonfly’s body.

We used pink, yellow, orange, and red for a rainbow effect.

Step 8

6. Add the Details

Cut a small triangle out of paper and glue it to the bottom of the last roll to finish the tail. Finally, add two googly eyes to the head.

Step 9

Step back and admire your colorful dragonfly.

This cheerful paper dragonfly makes a bright addition to any craft collection or seasonal display.
