Paper Christmas Tree Craft

If your kids love simple paper crafts they will love this easy-to-make paper Christmas tree craft. What we love about this craft the most is how easy it is to make and how wonderful it turns out.

If you are planning a Christmas themed bulletin board for your classroom, this is the project to make – while the trees will all be the same size, each of them will be unique as your kids decorate them in their very own way.

We used pom poms to decorate ours, but your kids can use a variety of other materials as well; from using paints to make the baubles to stickers to decorate their Christmas tree craft.

These also look great on Christmas cards – just have kids make one and stick it on a blank card to spread Christmas cheer.

As these are a no-prep project really they are a great last-minute Christmas craft to make in the classroom (or at home).

How to Make the Paper Christmas Tree Craft

What you need:

  • printable template (optional)
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • glue stick
  • color paper (green, brown, and yellow)
  • pom-poms (in different colors)

Step-by-Step Tutorial

Start with a square of green (or other color if your kids want their tree in another one) paper.

Step 1

Have kids fold it in half diagonally.

Step 2

Make cuts starting from the edge towards the folded part.

The cuts shouldn’t go all the way through – make sure there is some space left.

Step 3

Carefully unfold the paper.

Step 4

Apply glue on along the fold.

Step 5

Now, have kids start folding and gluing the strips in the center. Add glue if necessary.

Step 6

Each strip should be folded and glued at the center.

Step 7

Continue until all parts are folded and glued.

Step 8

Cut out a smaller rectangle out of brown color paper and glue it as a tree’s trunk.

Step 9

Have kids draw a star on yellow paper and cut it out.

Step 10

Then, glue the star to the tree’s top.

Step 11

It’s time for decorations.

We used colorful pom poms to decorate our paper Christmas tree craft but a variety of other materials can be used.

Step 12

Your kids can use their fingers, dip them in paint and make the fingerprint ornaments. Or use festive stickers as little baubles.

Step 13

Make them as colorful as you want.

Step 14

The paper Christmas tree craft is done!

Step 15

How do you like yours?

We bet it looks neat!
