Step by Step Tutorial

The Tree Trunk

To make the trunk, have the kids wrinkle brown paper. You can also have them use old newspaper and paint it brown.

Step 1

Some twisting and turning will be needed to shape up the tree trunk.

Step 2

It’s a fun process for the little ones.

Step 3

Have them cut the ends to get the desired length of their tree trunk.

Step 4

This is an example of how the tree trunk should look.

Step 5

Have the kids glue the tree to the bottom of the blue color paper.

Step 6

The Branches

The tree needs a couple of branches. Have the kids cut out a couple of different-sized rectangles to make the branches.

Step 7

We made ours with six branches, your kids can make any number they like.

Step 8

Have the kids twist the branches in the same way as they did the tree trunk.

Step 9

All six branches are ready.

Step 10

Next, they need to apply glue (either on the branches or the sheet of paper) and stick the branches onto the paper.

Step 11

Let them go wild with placing the branches.

Step 12

The Leaves

Prepare the old newspaper, magazines, or store pamphlets and have the kids cut out leaf shapes. Any colors will do, but if they are aiming for fall feelings, reds, yellows, orange and browns work out best.

They can glue some leaves directly to the blue paper to make the look fuller.
