How to Make the Easy Yarn Caterpillar Craft

What you need:

  • construction paper
  • scissors
  • glue
  • yarn
  • black marker
  • googly eyes

Step by Step Tutorial

Get ready to create a cute yarn caterpillar with your child!

We’ll need a base. You will want a heavier paper – cardstock or even cardboard from cereal box (or just regular cardboard).

Step 1

You can have the kids draw outlines with a pencil or just freestyle their caterpillar. Start by applying glue on the paper: make a circle of glue.

Step 2

Take yarn and carefully start placing it on the glued area.

Step 3

Roll it over the glue in a circular motion to create a thick spiral for the head.

Step 4

Continue creating the circle by applying more glue if needed.

Step 5

Watch the caterpillar’s head take shape!

Step 6

When the caterpillar’s head is the desired size, have kids cut off the excess yarn. Gently press the yarn down for it to really stick to the paper.

Step 7

Make the body in the same way (the circles can be the same size or a little bit smaller).

Step 8

Use a black marker to draw the antennae.

Step 9

Also draw of legs under each body segment.

Step 10

Let’s give this critter some personality!

Glue the googly eyes onto the caterpillar’s head.

Step 11

Apply a small amount of glue and have your child create the caterpillar’s mouth using a tiny piece of orange yarn.

Step 12

And there you have it – your adorable, easy yarn caterpillar craft is complete!
