How to Make Watercolor and Chalk Pastel Shell Art
What you need:
- printable template (optional)
- watercolors
- chalk pastels or crayons
- pencil
- eraser
- scissors
- glue stick
- art paper
- watercolors
- paintbrush
- black marker
Step by Step Tutorial
Start with a sheet of paper. Painting art paper (art or drawing pad) is the best choice but you can make the project with regular paper as well.
Paint the paper with blue watercolors to create a sea-inspired background.
You can use a variety of other supplies or techniques here to make the background blue.
Allow it to dry completely.
Print out the shell template or use another sheet paper and have kids draw the shell.
Start by drawing a large spiral with a pencil.
With a black marker, draw a scallop line along the pencil line.
Draw curved lines inside the shell.
Erase the pencil lines.
Take a chalk pastel or a crayon and color around the lines (press down firmly).
Color the segments with a lighter color (or press the crayon/chalk pastel more lightly as you color).
If working with chalk pastels, you can blend the two colors by smudging them.
Carefully cut out the colorful seashell.
Glue the seashell onto the watercolor background.
