What you need:

  • our printable template (comes with 5 Halloween monsters)
  • scissors
  • glue
  • coloring supplies

Step by Step Tutorial

Start by printing out the template. You can use regular print paper, however, heavier print paper will be even better.

If you are printing the black-and-white version, you can print the base (head and ears) on green paper.

Have the kids color the mouth, the eyes, and the bolt. They can also color the hair or, alternatively, trace the shape on black paper.

Cut out all the puppet parts.

If your kids decide to trace and cut the hair on black paper, place the hair square on top of black paper and cut along the shape.

While holding the white hair rectangle and black rectangle together (aligned nicely) cut along the dashed lines.

Let’s build the base of this Halloween Frankesntein puppet. Take the head part and fold it along all dashed lines.

Apply glue on the areas marked with the word glue.

Close up the template part, press down for the glue to set.

Making the Hair

To make the hair you will need to roll each of the paper strips. You can roll them with fingers or you can use a pencil or similar tool. This will make the hair curly.

Apply glue to the top of the puppet (where the ends are glued together) and stick the hair on.

Next come the ears.

And the nose! For the nose, fold along the dashed lines, apply glue and stick it on the puppet, making an arch.

Also add the mouth, the eyes and the bolts.

All done, you now know how to build a Frankenstein puppet.
