Craft meets art with this super simple toilet paper roll flower vase project. It’s a wonderful recycled craft that is perfect for welcoming spring in your home as well as making a gift. It’s one of the best Mother’s day crafts you can make with your kids.
We do have free templates for making the flowers for this project, but you can also have the kids make the flowers from scratch.
What I love most about this one is that you can also use it to teach about artists or art styles. Have kids paint the vases in Mondrian cubes. Challenge them to make stary night themed vases. Or teach them about history as they make Chinese art-inspired ones or ancient Greece-inspired ones.

Aren’t they the sweetest? There is a whole variety of medium you can use to create these. We made ours with tempera paint sticks but you can just as easily use acrilic paints, crayons, markers, watercolors… Anything goes, really.

How to Make the Toilet Paper Roll Flower Vase
What you need:
- sheet of printer paper
- toilet paper roll (you can also use yoghurt cups, plastic bottles…)
- pencil
- bold black marker
- coloring or painting supplies (we used paint sticks)
- scissors
- glue
- our printable template (the one with a mix of six flowers)
- paper straws or wooden skewers
- clear tape or washi tape
Step by Step Tutorial

Fold a sheet of paper in half. For a toilet paper roll, folding a sheet of paper in half works out perfectly.
If you are using something larger, you will need two sheets of paper.

Place the toilet paper roll in the center of the folded sheet and gently trace around it with a pencil.

Remove the toilet paper roll and draw a vase with a pencil. It has to be quite a bit wider than the toilet paper roll outline. Going almost to the edge of the folded paper works out great.
Trace over the vase pencil lines with a bold black marker.

Color or paint the vase.

With the paper folded, cut out the vase. This will make two vase shapes. You can have the kids color the other one as well, or leave it as is.

Place the paper roll at the center of one of the vase halves. Make sure it’s alligned at the bottom. You can even apply some glue to the vase or on the paper roll to keep it in place.

Apply glue onto the edges of the vase (on both sides).

Carefully glue the second vase half on top, pinching the sides for the glue to set. Hold it in place for a little while.

You can add more glue if needed if any part went a little loose.

Print out (or draw) flowers. Color or paint them.

Cut them out.

Secure a paper straw on the back of the flower petal.

Make a lovely bunch of flowers.

And place them into your vase.

Oh-so-pretty!
