How to Make the Positive Painted Rocks

What you need:

  • rocks
  • acrylic paints of your choice
  • paintbrush
  • black marker

Step by Step Tutorial

Head outside and hunt for a smooth, flat rock, the smoother the surface, the easier it will be to write on!

Step 1

Have kids paint the rock in their favorite color and set it aside to dry completely.

We went with a cheerful yellow, but any color works!

Step 2

Once dry, grab a black marker and have kids write a kind word right in the center of the rock.

We wrote “smile”, but “brave”, “kind”, “joy”, or “love” would be just as wonderful!

Step 3

Now for the fun decorating part! Have kids draw a little smiley face or any cute doodle they fancy around the word.

Step 4

Time to make some dots!

Step 5

Set the rock aside to dry one last time, and that’s it.

Step 6

One little rock with a big message is ready to go out into the world!
