Penguin in the Snow Craft Idea

This cute project is a quick one, as it combines a coloring template with a bit of painting creativity. A perfect boredom buster for a cold afternoon when you are stuck at home.

This winter craft is great to make either at home or in the classroom. It’s a fun project to add to your winter unit as it’s a low-prep one.

How to Make the Penguin in the Snow Craft

What you need:

• printable template
• scissors
• white paint
• paintbrush
• blue cardstock
• coloring supplies (colored pencils, crayons, or markers)

Step by Step Tutorial

Print out the penguin template. There are more sizes to choose from.

Have kids color the printout.

We used crayons, but your kids can use other coloring supplies as well.

Tip: if you are using watercolors be sure to print the template on cardstock.

Once they are happy with how their penguin looks it’s time to move to the next step.

Cut out the colored penguin along the outline.

Take the light blue (or other color) cardstock – this will be the background.

You can have the kids design the background first or just go ahead and glue the penguin to the center, allowing some space at the bottom for the snowy ground.

We painted the environment, but this craft allows using other materials like torn paper to make it as well.

Have them paint some wavy lines so it looks like a snowy landscape.

Next, have them create snowflakes on the blue background.

Children can use the end of a paintbrush or their fingers to make small dots resembling snowflakes falling from the sky. We used the paintbrush to do the trick.

All done!

Allow the craft to dry completely before handling or displaying.
