How to Make the Paper Plate Parrot Craft

What You Need:

  • paper plate
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • glue stick
  • red paint
  • paintbrush
  • yellow colored paper
  • crepe paper (blue, red, and green)
  • google eye
  • paper stapler (optional; you can use glue instead)

Step by Step Tutorial

Start with an empty paper plate and invite your kids to create.

Step 1

Have them paint the plate with their favorite colors (we used red paint, but they can use any color they wish).

Step 2

The Head and Body

Have them cut the paper plate in half.

Step 3

The Beak

Grab a piece of yellow-colored paper and place it on the paper plate’s half.

Cut along half of its edge to form a beak-like shape.

Step 4

Glue the yellow part onto the red paper plate’s half.

Step 5

Have kids glue the two paper plate halves together, forming distinct head and body sections for their parrot.

This will add depth and realism to the vibrant creation.

Step 6

The Wing

Have them use another sheet of yellow paper, draw a wing design with a pencil, and cut it out.

Step 7

Have them glue the wing to the parrot’s body.

Step 8

The Eye

Let your kids glue on a googly eye, bringing a playful and animated expression to their parrot.

Step 9

The Tail

Have them select three different colors of crepe paper (such as blue, red, and green) and cut out strips for the parrot’s vibrant tail.

Step 10

Help them attach the crepe paper tail to the bottom of the parrot’s body using a paper stapler.

Step 11

You can use glue if you don’t have the paper stapler at home.

Step 12

How did your kids like making these colorful, feathered friends?
