What you need:

  • paper plate
  • paint sticks (or tempera paint, watercolors, markers, or crayons)
  • scissors
  • glue stick
  • our free printable flower template
  • coloring supplies

Step by Step Instructions

Start with your paper plate. Grab a standard paper plate. Any size will work, but larger plates make more impressive wreaths and the center is easier to cut out.

If working with younger kids, also be mindful of the thickness of the paper plate or the coating. Some come with a super durable coating that makes them harder to cut. The cheaper the paper plates, the better.

Paint the outer edge. Using paint sticks, paint all around the outer rim of the paper plate. We used bright greens for a fresh, springy look.

If you don’t have paint sticks, tempera paint, watercolors, crayons, or even markers, they work great too.

Let it dry completely.

Cut out the center. Once your paint is dry, carefully cut out the center circle of the paper plate. This creates the wreath shape!

An adult may need to help younger kids get started with this step.

Start working on the flowers. Print out our template (we have many shapes and sizes so it’s easy to find just the right one). Color in the flowers.

Alternatively, you can also have the kids draw their own, turning this spring craft into a full-blown art project.

Cut out the flowers. Once your flowers are colored and dry, carefully cut them all out.

Glue the flowers onto the wreath. Now for the decorating! Use the glue stick to attach the flowers all around the painted wreath. Spread them out evenly or cluster them together.

Mix and match different flower shapes and colors for the prettiest effect.

Your flower wreath is complete! This wreath is perfect for hanging on your bedroom door, decorating the classroom, or giving as a heartfelt handmade gift!

You can make wreaths for every season by changing up the colors and decorations. Try orange and red flowers for fall, pastels for Easter, or red and pink for Valentine’s Day!
