How to Make the Paper Kite Craft
What you need:
- pencil
- scissors
- glue
- yarn
- cardstock (light blue)
- color paper (yellow, blue, orange, green, pink, and purple)
- white paper
- cotton balls
Step by Step Tutorial
Begin with a light blue cardstock base to mimic the sky, but feel free to let your child choose any color they prefer!
Cut out a yellow paper rectangle and fold it in half.
Draw a half-kite shape along the folded part with a pencil.
It’s time to create a magical kite!
Have kids cut out the kite shape, then repeat the process by cutting kite shapes of the same size with other colored papers like blue, orange, white, and green.
Have them apply glue to half the yellow paper and attach the blue folded kite shape.
Watch their 3D kite come to life!
Then, we started to glue the remaining kite shapes and continued with orange, but your kids can glue whatever colors they wish.
Each layer adds more depth to their kite!
Add another half-kite shape to the stack.
We finished off with a green one.
Once all shapes are glued, have your child “open up” the kite to reveal the beautiful 3D effect.
They’ve just created a stunning paper kite!
Have them glue the kite to the cardstock.
Prepare a string of yarn, apply glue in a wavy line, and have them attach the yarn.
Let their kite soar through the sky!
Then, have them cut out tiny triangles from colored paper and decorate the kite’s string for added flair.
Finish the scene by having them glue fluffy cotton balls as clouds to the background.
Their adorable paper kite craft is complete and ready to be proudly displayed!
