As nature is waking up outside, this is the perfect time to make a couple of spring crafts with your kids. This particular project is perfect for little hands as it only requires some basic techniques.

How to Make the Gorgeous Flower Paper Plate Craft

What you need:

  • paper plate or cardboard cut into a big circle
  • colorful paper – any colors will do; our favorite picks are orange, pink, red, and purple
  • scissors
  • glue
  • green paint
  • paintbrush
  • optional: pom pom, dried flower or anything else to place in the center of the flower

Step by Step Tutorial

Start by painting a paper plate.

If you don’t have paper plates, you can also use a cardboard box – cut out a circle from it (use a regular plate as a stencil) and paint it green. Set it aside so the paint dries up.

Cut out petal shapes out of colorful paper. The length of the petal for the first layer should be about the length of half of the diameter of the paper plate. But it doesn’t need to be exact.

Cut out about 6 petals. Continue with other colors, making each color a little bit smaller than the one before.

Roll the petals (you can roll more of them at the same time). This will give them a curved shape that will make the end craft have more volume.

While you are done with your petals, the green color on the paper plate should be dry already.

Start sticking the petals, applying the glue only on one end that you stick on the center of the paper plate.

Press down firmly for the glue to set. Once you are done with the first layer of petals, move to the next one.

You can do two, three, four, or even more layers; it all depends on the motor skills of your child.

Finish up by adding a pom pom, dried flower, or such in the center of your flower paper plate craft.

You can also crumple tissue paper and stick it to the center.

Fun idea: if you are a teacher, this craft makes a great project for the classroom that you can decorate your spring bulletin board with.
