DIY Chalk Paint Ornaments

These DIY Chalk Paint Ornaments are a great project for the whole family to make. Both kids and grown ups will enjoy making them, and as they have a very classy look to them they will look wonderful on your Christmas tree.

Not only are these a great ornament to make, they can be a wonderful kid made gift too.

I spend a lot of time wandering up and down the aisles of the craft store thinking of fun ways to use simple craft items.

One of my favorite things are packs of these little wood slices. They are very open-ended and can be used in a lot of creative ways by the kids.

This time we turned them into chalkboard ornaments that are really cute on the tree but also make an awesome gift to give, on their own or tied to a package.

DIY Chalk Paint Ornaments

What you need:

• wooden slices
• black chalkboard paint
• white chalk marker/paint pen
• ribbon or twine
• foam paintbrush
• hot glue gun/glue

Step by Step Instructions

If your wood slices are rough, use a piece of sandpaper or a sanding block to smooth it down.

Paint one side almost to the bark edges with black chalkboard paint and allow to dry.

Repeat with a second coat and let it dry fully.

Here you have a lot of ways your child can go in creating their chalkboard ornament.

You can just let them draw a picture on it with a chalk marker that will be permanent, such as the family picture below that my daughter drew, what a sweet keepsake we will have!

You can leave it black and keep a few pieces of chalk handy for them to draw and erase over and over or you can do a hybrid and draw something such as a tic tac toe board with a permanent paint pen/chalk marker and then use regular chalk for playing the game.

Finally flip your wood discover and hot glue a loop of ribbon on the back to create a hanger, be sure that it is attached on the right side so your ornaments image is hanging the correct way.
