Welcome fall in your home with this easy to make craft stick scarecrow craft. Craft sticks (or recycled popsicle sticks) are just perfect for making a scarecrow; it all just looks right once you have the finished craft in your hands.
This makes for a great classroom craft, too – have the kids each make their own scarecrow and then display them on your fall bulletin board.

How to Make the Craft Stick Scarecrow Craft
What You Need:
- craft sticks (6 regular or large ones for the scarecrow and smaller ones to keep them together – you can also cut the regular ones in half)
- glue (white school glue is great for wood)
- scissors
- raffia thread (you can use paper instead)
- orange or brown felt or paper
- faux mini leaves (optional)
- fabric scraps
- black marker
- craft paint (yellow or light brown)
- paintbrush
- 2 googly eyes
- 2 buttons

Step by Step Tutorial
Start by lining up five craft sticks.
Take the smaller ones, or cut one regular one in half and glue them across the five sticks to secure them in place.
This makes the body of the scarecrow craft. Wait for the glue to dry before you move to the next step to make sure all parts stay in place.

Once the glue has dried, flip the body of your scarecrow (well, the head).
Glue a regular-sized craft stick vertically to create the hat (if you glue it at a slight angle, it will look even better).

Paint the part above the stick and the stick with brown paint (or any other paint that you want your scarecrow’s hat to be).
Wait for the paint to dry.

The bottom part can be left as is, as the natural color of the craft sticks fits the scarecrow perfectly. But you can have the kids paint that part as well.
Raffia thread works great for making the scarecrow’s hair. Alternatively you can also cut thin strips of beige paper and glue them to the craft sticks. Yarn would work as well.

We’re almost done with the hat! Ribbon or scrap fabric strip work great as a hat decoration.
A fake (or a dried real) leaf is a nice touch too. You can also use other fall-themed decorations, such as sunflowers, acorns, and corn…

Add a pair of googly eyes, a pair of buttons for the cheeks and a fabric (or felt or paper) triangle for the nose.
Draw a smiling mouth with the black marker.

And there you have it – a cute popsicle stick scarecrow craft.

Have the kids play around with making more unique scarecrows.

The possibilities are endless, so let your kids imaginations run wild.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this craft stick scarecrow craft tutorial and the quality time spent with your little ones!
