How to Make the Winter Animal Catching Snowflakes Art
What you need:
- printable art templates
- blue paper or white paper with coloring materials (watercolor, oil pastels, crayons, or torn paper collage)
- scissors
- glue stick
- white acrylic marker, paint, or chalk marker
- optional: snowflake paper punch
- optional: printed snowflake templates (included)
Step by Step Tutorial
Start by having students create their blue winter sky background. They can use a blue sheet of paper, or have them color a white sheet of paper blue using techniques such as watercolor, oil pastels, crayons, or a torn paper collage.

Next, have them color the animal template, or they can draw their own animal if they prefer.
Have them color each part of the template, and encourage creativity by adding patterns to the scarf and hat.

Once the coloring is complete, have students cut out all the pieces along the solid black lines. This includes the animal body, scarf, and tongue piece.
Have students glue the main animal body onto the blue background.

Then, glue the scarf onto the animal.

It’s time to fold the tongue piece along the dashed line on the tongue. Then have them glue it onto the animal’s mouth area so it sticks out.

Have students add snowflakes to create their winter sky scene. First, have them draw snowflakes using a white acrylic marker, chalk marker, or paint (or use snowlakes made with snoflake paper punch – perfect for classrooms or larger groups).
Then, if you have a snowflake paper punch, use that to create a paper snowflake and glue it onto the tongue.

Alternatively, have them use the included snowflake templates to cut out a few and attach them to complete the winter animal scene.
