What you need:

  • pencil
  • scissors
  • glue
  • cardboard
  • compass (optional)
  • construction paper (brown, black, blue, light blue, yellow, orange, and red)
  • white liner
  • crayons (yellow and orange)
  • red marker

Step by Step Tutorial

Begin with a blue construction paper sheet as the backdrop for the cardboard owl craft.

Step 1

Have kids trace a circle onto a piece of cardboard using a compass or a round object.

Step 2

Cut out the circle.

Step 3

Decorate the circle with crayons.

We used orange.

Step 4

And we added a touch of yellow for a vibrant owl belly!

Kids can color the belly however they wish.

Step 5

Have them cut out two white circle eyes and glue them to the top of the cardboard circle.

Step 7

You can also cut out two smaller circles and glue them inside the white eyes.

Step 8

Followed by black pupils inside the blue ones.

Step 9

Create a beak shape from orange paper and glue it under the eyes.

Now your owl can hoot, hoot!

Step 10

Use a marker to draw feathery patterns on the owl’s body.

Step 11

Cut a red paper circle, fold it in half, and glue it as a wing.

Step 12

Repeat with yellow paper, gluing it inside the red wing.

Step 13

Cut another red circle and glue it under the yellow one.

Repeat these steps to create the other owl wing.

Flap, flap!

Step 14

Cut out a branch shape from brown paper and glue it to the bottom of your blue base.

Step 14-1

Cut and attach two black paper strips for the legs to the branch.

Step 15

Don’t forget the cute owl toes!

Cut four short black paper strips and glue them as fingers.

Step 16

Use a white liner to add texture and detail to the branch.
