If you’re still thinking of what Independence day themed food to serve why not give this 4th of July Burger a try!
While you’re busy making them, and trust me they really are easy, there are a ton of fun 4th of July activities to keep the kids busy.
How to make this patriotic dish
If you’ve got your favorite burger bun recipe already it’s as simple as folowing that one recipe and adding some blue food coloring to the batter. We’re not to keen on artificial food colorings in our house (although not strictly against) but nowadays you can get natural food coloring (even blue) or even make it yourself if you’re going for a 100% natural. True the colors won’t be as awesome as with the “regular” ones – they’ll have a bit more teal or even mint hue to them but I personally still think they turn out great!
I made these buns following this 40 minute burger bun recipe (I had to add a bit more flower though) and added blue food coloring as a last ingredient. This mix worked out great as it didn’t need a lot of coloring to turn into a light blue hue. The color of the buns once they were baked was pretty much the same as dough so it was easy to measure the coloring (in my case a few drops did the job).
To make this burger even more patriotic I added a big slice of my all time favorite cheese – mozzarella and a slice of tomato.
