While I certainly do like leprechauns now, I will admit a movie I saw in my childhood made me fear this jolly little fellow for quite a while. I am sure (or hope) your kids don’t have the same experience as this fellow makes a wonderful theme, along with the holiday itself for the kids.

These fun looking bearded creatures are actually fairies, so what’s not to love about them. They are known to spend their time mending shoes, and what’s even cooler – hiding their pots of golds at the ends of rainbows. Pretty magical isn’t it. If you manage to catch one (making leprechaun traps is a fun St. Patrick’s day activity for kids to do to) he just might grant you a few wishes in exchange for his freedom.

We’ve designed a fun leprechaun puppet for your kids to color in and fold (and most importantly play with) to make celebrating St. Patrick’s day super fun. It is our hope that these puppets will star in many fun puppet shows directed by your kids.

How to Make a Printable Chinese Dragon Puppet

What you need:

Or Follow These Step by Step Instructions

Start by printing out the puppet, preferably on heavier print paper or just use regular print paper.

Gran your kids favorite coloring supplies and let the decorating begin. Kids need to color in the middle part of the puppet template. The other two thirds don’t need to be colored (nothing wrong if they are) as they won’t be seen in the end.

Also color the hat and the beard on the other sheet of paper.

Cut out the accessories.

Time to fold! There are dashed lines on the first sheet of paper (the one with the puppet) – you have to fold along all of those lines.

Make the folds super crisp – we used a craft stick and ran it over each fold. Simple and effective.

Once you have all your folds ready – unfold.

Have the colored side of the sheet facing the table. Fold in the side with the glue and apply glue across the whole part.

Fold over the other side. Press for the glue to set.

Now it’s time to make the M shape.

Fold along the dashed lines.

Now take the hat and the beard and fold the along the dashed line under the design.

Apply glue and stick the hat on the head.

Apply glue on the beard and stick it under the chin.

All done!
