How to Make the Newspaper Heart Card
What you need:
- scissors
- heart outline template (optional)
- glue
- red cardstock
- old newspaper or magazines
- black liner
Step by Step Tutorial
Make the card base by folding a sheet of red (or other color) paper in half. You can also use store bought blank cards.
Run your fingers across the fold (or better yet use a ruler or something similar) to make the fold sharp.
Have kids cut three or more smaller rectangles from a newspaper.
Pile these up and fold them in half.
Have kids draw a half-heart shape beside the folded newspaper part using a black liner. You can also use our printable heart outlines.
This will allow your kids to get three identical heart shapes simultaneously when they cut the shape out.
Cut along the line and unfold the hearts.
Fold one heart shape in half and glue it to the card so the fold remains in the center of the red card.
This will be the starting point for the layered heart design.
Apply glue to the folded part.
Have them fold and glue the second heart shape onto the first one.
Press down gently to secure it in place.
It’s time for another folded heart to be glued onto the previous two.
Have kids apply glue to the last heart and unfold it, gluing it to the red card.
Your newspaper heart card is ready to be shared and appreciated by friends and family.
Kids can add a personal touch to the card by writing a heartfelt message or drawing something special.
Whether it’s a simple “I love you” or a more detailed message, the added personalization will make the card even more cherished.
