How to Make the Lovebug Valentine’s Day Craft

What you need:

  • scissors
  • glue stick
  • cardstock (pink)
  • color paper (red, pink, green, yellow, light blue, light green, and purple)
  • black liner
  • googly eyes

Step-by-Step Tutorial

Take the pink (or other color) cardstock and have the kids fold it in half.

Step 1

Rotate it so the fold is at the top – this forms the base of the lovebug card, which will open upwards.

Step 2

Have kids fold a piece of red paper in half.

Step 3

Have them draw a half-heart shape on it. You can also use our heart outlines as an alternative.

Step 4

Then, have them cut along the drawn line to create a heart shape for the lovebug’s head.

Step 5

Glue it onto the folded cardstock, near to the edge.

Step 6

Continue making hearts; you can make them a little bit smaller than the first one.

Apply glue to only one-half of each heart, then attach them from the head towards the end of the body.

We used pink, green, yellow, light blue, light green, and purple for the body, but kids can use any of their favorite colors.

Step 7

Draw antennae on the lovebug’s head using the black marker.

Step 8

Also draw a pair of legs under each of the body hearts.

Step 9

Next comes the mouth – have kids draw a cheerful smile on the lovebug’s face with the black marker.

Step 10

Glue googly eyes on the head to bring their lovebug to life.

Step 11

All done!

Your kids have crafted a colorful lovebug Valentine’s Day card!

Step 12

The last step is to have kids write a message inside the card, adding a personal touch to their creation.
