What you need:

- acrylic paints of your choice (or acrylic markers such as Posca)
- paintbrush
- black marker

Grab a rock. Pick one that feels smooth and just the right size for painting. No place to grab a rock in the wild? Garden stores and such are where you can purchase them (and the price is usually quite good).
If the rock is dark, have kids paint the whole rock white to create a clean background, then let it dry completely.
Use red paint to draw a heart in the center, fill it in, and let it dry.
Decorate around the heart with other colors. We used light blue to make it bright and cheerful.
Add some yellow to make your design really pop and shine.
Splash in a little pink for extra fun and sweetness. Let everything dry completely so the colors don’t smudge.
Grab a black marker once the paint is dry.
Carefully outline each shape to make your heart and colors stand out.
