How to Use Our Elephant Puppet Printable Template

What you need:

  • our printable template (grab it at the end of this tutorial)
  • paper – heavier print paper is recomended
  • coloring supplies
  • glue
  • scissors

Follow the Step By Step Tutrial

Start by printing out the elephant puppet printable template. We do recommend you print it on heavier print paper, but regular print paper will work OK too.

Color in the puppet. Only color the middle third of the sheet, as other two thirds won’t be seen when the puppet is folded (nothing wrong if you color it all though).

Also color the “accessories” on the second page. There are many different colors you can choose, we think gray or blue work best for the elephant skin but you don’t need to limit yourself to “realistic” colors.

Cut out the ears, trunk and tusks. Set them aside.

Take the first sheet and make folds across all dashed lines.

We usually run a craft stick across all folds to make them really crisp. This makes folding the puppet much easier.

Unfold all folds. Have the design side face the table. Fold one wing left, or right one, over the middle and apply glue across the folded third.

Fold the other “third” on top of the one you just applied the glue on. Press down for the glue to set.

Fold along the dashed lines into a M shape.

This is how the M shape should look like, with the inside of the mouth as the valley fold.

Glue all the “accessories” on your elephant puppet.

Now push your fingers into the two slits and let your elephant puppet come to life!
