Crocodiles sure are fun, when it comes to crafting – this pipe cleaner crocodile is certainly one of our favorite creations (you just have to give it a try).

We love making and sharing all kinds of puppets, paper bag puppets (an all time kindergarten favorite) are just the newest addition (and the collection will most certainly grow).

This one is quick to make and you can make make it a 100% crafty project or you can also incorporate art – crocodile skin pattern offers a lot of flexibility here, but we’ll get to this a bit later.

Ready to make your own puppet? Let’s make one!

How to Make a Crocodile Paper Bag Puppet with our Template

What you need:

  • our template (grab it at the end)
  • paper bags (pre colored or have the kids paint them)
  • cardstock in color or have the kids paint it
  • scissors
  • glue
  • black marker

If you’ll have an “arty” go at this project you can have the kids make their patetrns for the alligator/crocodile skin – use bubble wrap paper for stamping, fingers….

Step by Step Tutorial

Print out the template and cut out all the parts.

If working with “blank” paper bags and paper, paint it and let the paint dry.

Glue construction paper onto the paper bag. (the side which flaps up). Trim of any excess paper if necessary.

Trace the templates onto construction paper and cut them out – teeth on white paper, belly on patterned paper (if possible), tail on patterned paper too and tongue on red paper. Head, mouth and wavy template on green paper.

Cut out 2 large circles from white paper for the eyes and 2 smaller circles from black paper.

Make the mouth. Start by gluing the red paper onto the alligator’s mouth. Next glue on a set of teeth.

Glue black circle on the white circle to make the eyes, then glue the eyes onto the crocodile’s head.

Next glue the wavy paper onto the sides of the paper bag.

Glue the oval shape onto the alligator’s body and the head onto the part of the bag that flaps up.

With a black marker, draw details on the belly.

Flap up the bottom of the paper bag (now the head) and glue the mouth underneath.

Glue on the tail.

With a black marker, draw the nostrils on the crocodile’s head.

Your crocodile paper bag puppet is finished!
