We love making crafts that have some depth and dimension to them and tunnel books certainly are that! They can be the doorway to many fun filled miniature worlds.

This under the sea tunnel book template is simple enough to make (for kids and grown ups) so it’s great for teaching / learning the basics.

There are some “sea elements” you can place into this tunnel book and a fish and an octopus, so we do hope your kids will design a few of their own elements to add to it.

Ready to give our template a go? Lets make it together!

How to Make Under the Sea Tunnel Book

What you need

  • our printable Under the Sea Tunnel Book template (you can grab it at the end of this tutorial)
  • printer
  • print paper (the heavier the better)
  • optional card stock
  • coloring pencils, crayons, markers or something else (we used Tombow Dual Brush Markers)
  • glue
  • scissors

This tunnel book is best made with heavier print paper. If you don’t have it, you can print it on regular paper and glue it on construction paper.

Print out our template (you can find it at the end of this tutorial). You can also print the page with the grids on blue paper to give it the under the sea look.

Color in all the pictures. We used markers BUT there is a thing with markers, they tend to bleed through and wrinkle the paper, so it’s important you either use heavier paper or reinforce it with construction paper.

We also reinforced the background with some cardboard to really make it firm.

Once all the scenes and animals are colored in, cut them out.

Also cut out the two grids. Fold the two grids along the lines into an accordion. You need to score all folds to make them nice and crisp – we used a craft stick to do it.

Apply glue on one fold and glue on the background.

Apply glue on the last fold and glue on foreground.

Glue the scenery as you see fit.
