We love making all kinds of Christmas crafts, and this particular one we feel makes for a great Christmas project for the classroom. When it comes to making kid made Christmas wreaths for the classroom though, we feel this tutorial should (can) be used as one way to decorate the wreath, but you don’t need to limit your students just to this one.

Have them make wreath designs of their own. Let them use materials of their own choosing. Remember, this tutorial is just an idea that will hopefully spark a ton of other ones. There really are no limits to materials your kids can use when it comes to decorating these.

If you are making this as a family project you can also adjust the craft to fit different ages – if you need an easier version for younger kids (preschool or toddlers) have them paint the paper plates – they can even use their hands instead of paintbrushes – you know they will love to.

Older kids can make even smaller paper loops and use more of them, this will give this Christmas craft an even cooler look.

Let their imagination be their guide.

How to Make the Paper Plate Christmas Wreath Craft

What you need:

  • paper plate
  • green paper
  • red paper
  • scissors
  • glue
  • pom poms (optional)

Step by Step Tutorial

Punch a hole in the middle of the paper plate, start cutting from there to cut out the bottom of the paper plate (circle).

Cut strips of green paper.

We made ours by cutting across the width of a a4 / letter sized sheet. We then cut those paper strips in half.

Apply glue on the end of the paper strip.

Glue the ends together making a paper roll.

Make quite a few.

Apply glue (or even better, use glue dots) on the paper plate edge or on the paper rolls and stick the rolls on the edge of the paper plate.

Next, lets make a bow. Fold a piece of red paper in half and cut a “half bow”.

Also make two ribbons.

Glue the ribbons on the back of the bow.

Cut a red paper strip, add glue on one end and make a red paper loop.

Stick it on the bow.

Apply glue on the back of the bow and press it on the paper plate Christmas wreath.

Now it’s time to decorate. We decorated ours with pom poms.

Apply glue on the pom pom (or use a glue dot) and stick it on the paper loops.

All done! Your Paper Plate Christmas Wreath Craft is complete and ready for hanging.
