We love crafting and doing fun activities for kids with leaves, as they are after all, one of nature’s most frugal crafting materials. And oh so versatile!

This time, we’re combining leaves with yet another fun crafting supply for kids, the super frugal paper plate – and making all kinds of silly hairdos and faces. Paper plate activities for kids are the best!

There really are no rules to how you can make this one and there certainly are no rules as to which leaves to use – pick as many different kinds as possible to give your kids or students (this one is great to do in preschool or kindergarten) as much of an open ended project as possible. You can even make this into an “self portrait” art activity!

Make sure the leaves are dried before you start making this craft, even more so if you want to keep this crafting project as a display – as leaves that are not yet fully dry will wrinkle and curl over time, whereas dry ones will keep their shape.

We dry ours by placing them between sheets of newspaper and weighting them down with books. We also make it a point to pick leaves after a few sunny days, never directly after a rainy one.
