This is a easy to use natural homemade oven cleaner that works great for us! We try our best to use as much eco friendly and natural cleaners (like with removing limescale from taps) in our home as possible and oven is one of the most important places to go natural if you ask me.
First I’d just like to point out that if your oven has the option to self clean (pyrolysis) that is a great option. However if you have an older oven or have never used the self cleaning option before I’d recommend checking online if your oven model has any issues with pyrolysis (some older models tend break fairly easily).
That said let’s get to our easy to make cleaner or well a cleaning process.
Natural Homemade Oven Cleaner
So what do you need? My all time favorite multi-purpose cleaners – baking soda, vinegar and/or lemon.
Now there are many different ways to go about cleaning and it really depends on how messy your oven is.
If your oven is not too dirty you can simply turn the heat up to about 500°F (250°C) and pour some water (4 cups / 1l) in the pan and add a few spoons of baking soda. “Bake” it for 45 minutes. Turn off the oven and let it cool for a bit. Pour some vinegar or lemon juice, vinegar is more effective though, into a spray bottle and spray the inside of the oven (or soak a cloth in vinegar and press it on the oven walls) and leave it to do it’s thing for a couple of minutes. All the filth should come off easily now with a cloth soaked in the warm water (if you used vinegar you can also add some lemon juice or a few drops of essential oil to make the vinegar smell go away).
Another way to go about it is to sprinkle some baking soda in the oven, spray it with water and leave over night (you can also spray it with vinegar or lemon juice but don’t leave it on for more than half an hour!). If you also need to clean the oven walls mix water and baking soda so that you get a paste like consistency that’s easy to rub on the walls.
