Homemade cleaners are great for so many reasons – they’re frugal, you always know what you put in it, more often than not are way friendlier to your skin than store bought ones as they are non-toxic and they do the job (amongst other things!).

Homemade Window Cleaner

Cleaning windows isn’t really on my priority list – could do with my heights as whenever I go about cleaning them I need to use a chair plus still step on my toes (ultimately leading to a cramp!) but using homemade cleaners is (for the previously mentioned reasons!).

How to make homemeade window cleaner

There are quite a few different recipes to make one but over the years (and generations) this mixture has served us best!

  • third cup white vinegar
  • third cup baking soda
  • cornstarch (like a teaspoon per 4 cups water)
  • 4 cups water

Pour all the ingredients into a spray bottle, shake them, and you’re ready to clean! If you can’t stand the smell of vinegar (not the nicest smelling thing in the world) you can add a few drops of essential oils to cover the smell (lemon or lime work out great!).

If you don’t have all those at home you can just leave out an ingredient or two (vinegar is a must though!) – it will still clean the windows but you’ll have to put a bit more elbow grease into it.

If you want super shiny windows without cleaning marks clean them with good old black and white newspaper – it does wanders!

Got a scratch on your window?

Polish it with some toothpaste!
